Indoor Water Fountains - Stone Maintenance
If you own an indoor water fountain, specifically a wall mounted stone or marble fountain, there is some maintenance you will need to do in order to keep your fountain looking it's best. There is a restaurant I frequent which has a wall mounted slate water fountain and it is in horrible condition because they never take care of it. There are a few simple steps you can follow to have your stone fountain always looking its best.
The stone comes to you with a sealant already applied so to extend the life of your stone and prevent any long term water damage. This sealant prevents water from soaking into the stone and causing it to flake off. If you have a slate wall water fountain you will need to run it and see if any water splashes off even if it is just a tiny bit. You want to find this out because you don't water on your floor or wall. If there is a slight splash it could be because of a ridge in the slate. This can be easily fixed. By taking a chisel or flat-head screwdriver your can scrape down the stone where there is a lip that the water is splashing off. This will not damage the stone and it will still maintain it's original beauty.

Water Fountain Care
If you already own or are thinking of purchasing a water fountain, whether for your home, office or garden, there are some simple things you should know about maintenance. Many people buy their fountains, set them up, and just expect them to work perfectly and look beautiful. The result of this will be a dirty, unsightly fountain. There is some simple maintenance that goes along with owning a water fountain and it is important to follow so that your fountain does not become dirty and unsightly.
You should always use distilled water in your fountains. Distilled water works the best and will not accumulate algae and other fungal growths in the water. If you must use tap water be sure to add a few drops of bleach to the water every week or so so to kill any algae that might be growing.
Make sure that if you leave your fountain off for an extended period of time to empty the water so that it doesn't sit there and become stagnant. Especially in outdoor fountains where mosquitoes might breed. When running your fountain be sure to always check water levels daily as the water will humidify over time. If your fountain is running low on water or dry it can ruin the pump. depending on how warm it is where you live and how much water you lose to humidity, you will need to constantly add water to your fountain.

Spa Trade Show
I just found out about this trade show in Vegas. It is called the International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference. Being held April 24 - 26 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
I'm thinking about going and taking a few water fountains to display as an exhibitor. It look like a great way to showcase these amazing water features. Indoor water fountains would go great in a spa setting due to their relaxing sounds and natural beauty. Maybe you have seen indoor water fountains in a spa before. Perhaps the one you saw had a custom logo etched in the stone of the companies logo or name.
Most of our wall fountains can be customized to add a logo or design into the stone. These go great in offices, spas, or entryways. I think it gives people a sense of calmness as they come into your place of business. I have been in offices many times with custom slate waterfalls and people are drawn to them... they can't keep their eyes off them and often times they want to touch them.
I will do a follow up post if I go to this spa conference and let you know how it went.
